A 21-year-old man living in Jamaica, Queens will face trial this month for a plot to detonate a bomb outside the Federal Reserve Bank in Manhattan in mid-October.
Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis was in the U.S. on a student visa and was actively recruiting others to help him wage a jihad on the United States. Fortunately, the bomb that Nafis acquired was a fake, provided by undercover FBI officers as part of a sting operation. Had Nafis been able to secure a real bomb it would have been an entirely different situation.
Detonating a bomb in a densely populated area can be an create a devastating and deadly situation. While the bomb impact itself is extremely powerful and can cause mass destruction and death it is often the shock wave from the bomb that causes the most damage. When the shock wave comes into contact with windows, the pressure causes the glass to implode and turns these glass shards into deadly weapons as they are projected though rooms in a building.
That’s one of the reasons that the organizations like the federal government, military installations and buildings in downtown areas are installing Thermolite Window Systems, such as the Thermolite Blast Window System. The Thermolite Window System can be discreetly installed on the inside of existing windows and prevents window implosion and dangerous glass shards.
