Solar is a fast-paced, innovative sector that is constantly evolving. The sun is our most dependable source of energy and harnessing it’s benefits simply makes sense.
Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, are also known as solar panel, solar energy or solar power systems that convert sunlight into electricity.
This is a new R&D project for Thermolite in 2016. We use a thin-film amorphous silicon panel that is laminated inside two pieces of glass. What is that?? Think something along the lines of the solar cells in your average calculator….just A LOT of them. Thin-film solar cells perform relatively well under poor lighting conditions and are not affected by shading issues. Amorphous silicon solar cells will generate from indirect light around 4 Watts per square foot. The picture is a basic representation of how simple a solar panel window system is. The leads at the top are strung together and placed into an array circuit. This DC current is then put through an inverter and wired into the panel on the floor.
The solar window still provides all the benefits of our interior window system with generation capabilities to help save you money. Your window project will benefit you by reducing heating/cooling costs, your comfort level, and is now even more attainable by utilizing the solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC). This is a 30 percent federal tax credit for solar systems on both residential and commercial properties and is one of the most important federal policy mechanisms to support the deployment of solar energy in the United States. The success of the ITC shows that a stable, long-term incentive can reduce prices and create jobs in solar energy.
