Thermolite’s blast window retrofit is the only one made in the United States that uses dynamic loading to accomplish the objective of keeping glass from penetrating into the building. Its balanced design and patented compression release technology™ allows our blast window retrofit to withstand high pressure with no structural steel required.
How it works
We approach a blast window design by using the balanced design approach and evaluating a variety of factors, notably:
- the forces applied to window on glass
- how glass force is transferred to frame
- how the blast energy is transferred to the wall, floor, and ceiling structure of building.
Blast windows obviously require a strong glass that doesn’t easily penetrate upon a blast force, but the glass is ineffective if not held down properly. This is why traditional blast window design uses very heavy glass and structural steel reinforcement around window frame: the heavy blast glazing on the glass is a rigid body and transfers all of the blast pressure impulse to the frame of the window. To negate the need for heavy structural steel framing, Thermolite uses our patented compression release technology™ , which defers the last pressure transfer until the negative phase of the blast pressure wave occurs.
Our unique dynamic blast window results in a lower total project cost and a much faster installation time.
- Reduces installation time by over 90%
- Reduces total cost by over 50%
Thermolite offers the best blast window system because it is used on the interior of existing windows, so there is no need to tear out the wall to place steel inside of the window frame, unlike most other blast window retrofit products. It installs in 1 or 2 hours in typical situations and we meet and exceed all GSA and DOD blast levels.
When Thermolite Blast Window Systems are used it means is lower cost, higher ROI, larger window openings, pain-free installation—all with the highest level of security possible and with the most exceptional energy performance in the industry today. In addition, installation can be performed discreetly on the interior of your building and during hours that are convenient for you.
